This faithful copy, unfortunately confined to the bust alone, of an oil painting by Ary Scheffer, was made by his pupil, Stanisław Stattler. The copy was produced to commission for Marcelina Czartoryska. The painting bears the date 9 January 1858. Duchess Marcelina Czartoryska donated the portrait of Chopin to the Muzeum Książąt Czartoryskich in Cracow, in October 1881. It is displayed there in the ‘Pokój z pamiątkami po Chopinie’.
