This painting refers to earlier works by Teofil Kwiatkowski depicting the composer’s last days, enhanced here with a portrait of Delfina Potocka, standing at the piano and singing at the composer’s bedside. Ludwika Jędrzejewicz is kneeling by the headboard, a nun is praying and hugging Solange Clésinger, Marcelina Czartoryska is kneeling, in the background are Revd Aleksander Jełowicki, Wojciech Grzymała and Teofil Kwiatkowski.

This picture was popularised thanks to a heliograph published after 1885 by Braun & Cie, which the Muzeum Fryderyka Chopina in Warsaw has in its collection [M/1149].
