On 23 April 1810 (Easter Sunday), Fryderyk Franciszek Chopin was baptised in the parish church of St Roch in Brochów, near Żelazowa Wola. His godmother was Anna Skarbek, later Wiesiołowska, and his godfather, according to the Chopin family tradition, Fryderyk Skarbek, although he was not present at the actual baptism and his duties were discharged by his proxy, Franciszek Grembecki, from the village of Ciepliny. Several years earlier, in 1806, the same church in Brochów had also held the wedding of Chopin’s parents, Justyna Krzyżanowska and Mikołaj Chopin, and in 1832 Fryderyk’s elder sister, Ludwika, wed there Józef Kalasanty Jędrzejewicz.
