For the first seven years of his life, Fryderyk lived in the Saxon Palace. His father, Mikołaj Chopin, was a French teacher employed at the Warsaw Lyceum, which was housed in the palace at that time, and, as was the custom, he and his family were given accommodation in the part of the building set aside for teachers’ living quarters in the right wing.
